A group of community leaders and volunteers came together in 2019 to create a festival for Port Blandford. Given the abundance of apple trees in the town, an apple theme was chosen. The festival date is the last weekend in September, which coincides with apple harvest time, and extends the tourist season into the early fall.
The first AppleFest was a big success, and volunteers committed to hold the event again in 2020, which they did, despite the COVID-19 pandemic. Public health guidelines were followed, and programs altered, to ensure that participants were kept safe.
